[Learning Series] Successful Graduate Student Award Application

Dr. Karen Beattie, Associate Professor in the Department of Medicine, Division of Rheumatology, at McMaster University, will be hosting the next ARiEAL Learning Series session entitled “Guidance, Tips and Tricks for Preparing a Successful Graduate Student Award Application”. Dr. Beattie received her PhD at McMaster University in 2006 and continued to pursue a Post-Doctoral Fellowship. She joined the faculty in 2008 and pursued a research career in identifying imaging biomarkers to assess disease activity and progression in osteoarthritis. She has also been involved in a number of studies in Osteoporosis, Rheumatoid Arthritis and Lupus. In 2017, Dr. Beattie became the Director of Research in the Division of Rheumatology and has spent the past few years supporting and expanding Rheumatology research and the capacity of undergraduate, graduate, medical and post-graduate medical trainees in research. She has served on many grant review panels (e.g., CIHR, The Arthritis Society) as a reviewer of student awards and strategic operating grant applications.

Presentation Description:
It is important for students who are applying for graduate student awards to be cognizant of what is required to write a strong application, to appreciate what the reviewers are looking for and to understand the criteria for assessment. In this ARiEAL Learning Series session, Dr. Beattie will review criteria for Tri-Agency graduate student awards and share guidance, tips and tricks to optimize the quality of your application and increase your chances of being successful.
