Maryam Valian
Maryam Valian is a PhD candidate in Computer Science at ARiEAL, working in Dr. Brodbeck’s Lab. Her research focuses on MEG source localization and computational methods for modeling how the brain responds to stimuli during cognitive tasks.
Her work focuses on Neuro-Current Response Function (NCRF) modeling for source localization in MEG data, with a particular interest in speech and language processing. She studies how the brain responds to continuous, naturalistic language input, such as audiobook listening, and develops computational methods to improve the accuracy and reliability of source-level brain modeling. She also works on extending NCRF methods to better capture nonlinear relationships in speech and other complex stimuli.
