Paloma is a second-year MSc student in the Syntax Lab whose research focuses on ethical datives in Spanish. These types of constructions are used to express a speaker’s perspective, attitude, or personal involvement in an event. Her project examines how these constructions are encoded in the grammar, and what the structure of ethical datives can reveal about the division of labour between syntax and pragmatics.
