Ivona Kučerová, “Indigenous Language Revitalization: University-Lab-Based Perspective

We would like to invite you to our next ARiEAL Brown Bag event! The idea behind the Brown Bag series is to provide our trainees and faculty members a casual setting where they can present and workshop their “work-in-progress” – thesis, dissertation, and book chapters, articles, or conference papers – for some constructive feedback from our team at ARiEAL.

Our next speaker is Dr. Ivona Kučerová, the Director of ARiEAL and an Associate Professor in the Department of Linguistics and Languages. Dr. Kučerová will present a paper titled “Indigenous Language Revitalization: University-Lab-Based Perspective.” This event will take place at LRW 4018 on Friday, 11 November, 12-1pm.

Abstract: Language Revitalization efforts have taken many shapes within Indigenous communities over the years. Adult immersion is an area of less focus. Working in partnership with three Haudenosaunee adult immersion programs in the Six Nations, Oneida of the Thames, and Tuscarora New York communities to identify best practices in Haudenosaunee adult immersion, Dr. Kučerová and her team are investigating the areas of curriculum, methodology, justification, and how a university-based language science lab can contribute to successful language reclamation. In this presentation, Dr. Kučerová will share the evolution of their partnership, research, and desired outcome.

We will have Pizza!!
