[Learning Series] Life after ARiEAL with Dr. Cassandra Chapman

Please join us for our next Life after ARiEAL event, featuring Dr. Cassandra Chapman, March 6, 12pm. LRW 4018.

Dr. Cassandra Chapman earned her Ph.D. from McMaster University in 2018, and the focus of her doctoral studies was on the Cognitive Science of Language. Her doctoral degree was funded by a prestigious Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC) Canada Graduate Scholarship. During her PhD studies, Cassandra also completed a visiting term at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and was funded by the Michael Smith Foreign Study Supplement. Cassandra’s dissertation investigated how sentence structure (syntax) and sentence meaning (semantics) affect reading times in language processing. While at ARiEAL, she worked in Dr. Kucerova’s Syntax Lab as a PhD student and also as a postdoctoral fellow and also completed projects with Dr. Service and Dr. Kuperman, in their respective labs. Cassandra is now the Halton and Peel Headmaster for Brain Power Enrichment Programs, an after-school academic enrichment program for high-achieving students in Grades 1-12. She concurrently teaches undergraduate courses at various Ontario universities, including York University and Brock University.

The aim is to invite ARiEAL Alumni that have been doing great and amazing things since graduating to talk to us. They will talk about their current jobs, the paths that led to their current employment, how their degrees in Language Science helped them find their jobs, is helping in their current roles, and some of the struggles that followed graduation. Following a short presentation, our speakers will open up for discussion and answer your question. You can join the conversation and post questions for our guests on our jam board:
