Research Data Management (RDM) means the active organization and maintenance of research data throughout its life cycle – from collection to interpretation, dissemination, long-term preservation, and reuse. The Tri-Agency has released the Research Data management Policy draft which is expected to be implemented in the near future. What does this mean for researchers and trainees? And, how could we take a proactive measure to be prepared?
Vivek Jadon works as a Data Specialist in University Library System where he manages a vast archive of research data and provides research support in the use of numeric research data at McMaster University. As part of his role, Vivek is University’s official representative for Statistics Canada’s Data Liberation Initiative (DLI) program and Inter-university Consortium for Political and Social Research (ICPSR). Both of these programs provide researchers with vast archive of research data from various disciplines for high quality research and instruction. Vivek is also involved in building awareness and promoting Research Data Management (RDM) activities/services at McMaster University.
In this session, Vivek will provide an overview of Research Data Management followed by an overview of two tools (Portage-supported DMP Assistant and Scholars Portal Dataverse) that can be easily integrated in to researchers work flow to better organize and manage research data. By the end of the session, the participants are expected to gain a working knowledge of these tools.
