[Lecture Series] Nominal Linkers: The Case of Ezafe in Iranian Languages

By Dr. Arsalan Kahnemuyipour, November 29, 2017, 11:30 am – 1:00 pm

Department of Linguistics and Languages will host a talk by Dr. Arsalan Kahnemuyipour from the Department of Language Studies at University of Toronto (Mississauga, ON) on November 29, 2017. This is part of the Cognitive Science of Language lecture series of the current academic year. Looking across languages, there are elements in the nominal domain which seem to have no clear meaning or function. These elements are sometimes referred to as “linkers”. In this talk, Dr. Kahnemuyipour will explore a particular example of this type of linker, known as the Ezafe, found in Iranian languages. The bulk of Dr. Kahnemuyipour’s talk is about Persian, a Western Iranian language spoken mainly in Iran, Afghanistan and Tajikistan, with the majority of the data coming from the dialect spoken in Iran. For more details and the suggested list of reading, please visit the Cognitive Science of Language lecture series webpage.
