Dr. Michel DeGraff is a Professor of Linguistics at Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and the Director of MIT-Haiti Initiative. This talk is hosted by the Department of Linguistics and Languages as part of their 2020-2021 Cognitive Science of Language Lecture Series, and is co-hosted by ARiEAL Research Centre as part of our ARiEAL Speaker Series. In this talk, Dr. DeGraff will present the history, the rationale and the objectives of the MIT-Haiti Initiative as part of a broader vision to dismantle various sorts of apartheid in linguistics (especially Creole studies) and in education (especially in the context of post-colonial communities).
