Please join us for “Stronger Together: STEMM and the Humanities,” a special event focused on STEMM in the Humanities and Humanities in STEMM. The goal is to foster meaningful discussion about the integration of STEMM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, and Medicine) approaches in the humanities, as well as the value of humanistic perspectives within STEMM-based research.
This event will take place on March 30, 1-4:30 pm, at the LiveLab, and will feature:
- A 90-minute roundtable discussion, including a Q&A, on the role of the humanities in STEMM and the use of STEMM methods in the humanities. Hosted by Myron Groover, Archives and Rare Books Librarian, this roundtable will include high profile researchers from the Humanities, Social Sciences, Science, Engineering, and Health Sciences, including Rong Zheng (Computing and Software), Lyn Turkstra (Rehabilitation Studies), Jacques Carette (Computing and Software), Rick Monture (English and Cultural Studies), Andrea Zeffiro (Communication Studies & Media Arts), and Phoebe Gaston (Linguistics and Languages).
- A 90-minute keynote address, including a Q&A, by Dr. Colin Phillips. Dr. Phillips has extensive experience navigating the challenges of leading the internationally renowned Language Science Center at the University of Maryland, which blends humanities, STEMM, and health-science research. Dr. Colin Phillips is an internationally recognized scholar in linguistics and psycholinguistics, currently at the University of Oxford and the University of Maryland. His research focuses on language processing and acquisition, using interdisciplinary approaches from cognitive science and neuroscience.
